06 Nov2017Housebuilding in the UK is big business. Government targets implemented by a considerable shortage of housing means the industry needs to recruit in over 35k new roles each year from now until 2021 if we are to be able to keep up with demand. This figure was determined by the Construction Skills Network in their report published in February 2017. With such a massive void to fill attracting students into housebuilding is going to be vital, but how do we achieve this?
04 Nov2017Have you ever been to a careers event at a school or college? While there is no enforcement in place, you will see that gender stereotyping is still very much in play. It is a sad fact that many industries always fall very much into the category of suitable for one gender not the other. Hair and Beauty – Girls. Construction and Trades – Boys. 20 Oct2017Imagine a room large enough to accommodate the entire candidate database of the average Jobs Board. First of all, what do you know about Jobs Boards? Little, is my guess – unless you work in recruitment. Imagine 12 million people in a room. A little stuffy until you open a window.
05 Apr2017The recruitment market must be getting busier, if the reaction of receptionists around the country, is anything to measure. I am a specialist headhunter within the housebuilding sector. Occasionally, I have cause to contact an office of a house-building group to reach a certain person. Although I like to think that I’m famous, it’s pretty evident that I’m not as well-known by reception staff. Much of my work is based upon referral and recommendation. I’ve been headhunting for nearly 15 years, following a decade at director level in housebuilding, the industry sector I serve. I’ve just made a call to a company that have recently employed my services, to speak with someone who is unknown to me. The gatekeeper (receptionist) quickly obtained my name and asked which company I was from. I explained that my company is called **face-fit**, a headhunting business.
